                                   BREEDING REQUIREMENTS

Rebel no longer breeds naturally, nor is being collected for frozen semen. There is a critical limited supply of semen remaining. Once it is gone, it is gone forever. As a result, we take many factors into account before approving a breeding. When an ample supply was available, we attempted to breed to all good bitches with proper health clearances, knowing Rebel would improve the gene pool of any female he bred. We would like to breed to all good females, but please understand that Rebel has only a few litters left to produce and we must act accordingly.

The following must be sent to us via FAX, Mail, or Email prior to approval:

  • Copy of AKC Registration Certificate

  • Copy of OFA Hip Certification

  • Copy of a CERF Certification or CERF Exam (yearly updates unnecessary)

  • Pedigree, as many generations back as is available

Without prior history on your bitch, we recommend starting progesterone timing on the 5th day of the cycle, and continuing every other day until a level of 2.0 is attained. This may require two or three tests; your inseminating veterinarian may recommend additional tests. The serum progesterone reading (not the "target" test), which any vet can send overnight to the lab, is the only accurate test.

The inseminating veterinarian must be experienced and have a history of success in the procedure of surgical implantation of  frozen semen. You will receive more than three times the live semen necessary for a full litter; the variables are the progesterone timing, the skill of your veterinarian, and the reproductive health of your bitch. Choose wisely, and investigate fully.

                                           BREEDING GOALS

One of our highest priorities is to try and improve the breed by passing on Rebel's tremendous genes. This has been my interest since being selected by his breeder to be the one to get the yellow puppy in his litter. No yellow field champion has ever been bred better, and we are excited to play a part in shaping the gene pool of our future working retrievers. One of our top goals is to pass on Rebel's tremendous talent to the next generation and produce Field Champions.

                               FROZEN SEMEN BREEDINGS

Technology has increased your options. It is now possible to ship frozen semen to a qualified reproductive vet in your area for surgical insemination.  With ovulation timing, which your vet initiates early in the heat cycle (you must take your dog to the vet early in the cycle; i.e. Day 3 to 5), one can be  certain of the best time for insemination. Ovulation timing will provide approximately 2-5 days notice of the best time for insemination. As a result, frozen semen used in conjunction with this testing can result in rates of pregnancy that match a natural breeding.  If one realizes the lack of dog shipping fees, brucellosis testing, plus airport/boarding fees, this is a very attractive way to breed. Many experienced breeders who will not breed any other way.

                                                      FEES

Stud Fee

Stud Fee.....................................................................................................................$1500

One-half of the Stud Fee ($750) must be paid by cashier's check or money order prior to release of semen. Note that the semen is a proven commodity (all semen has been tested and verified to contain at least the industry standard of 100 million live sperm, enough to produce more than 3 full litters), and the variables are proper progesterone timing, the skill of your veterinarian, and the reproductive health of your bitch. Once semen is shipped, this fee is non-refundable.

The balance of the stud fee ($750) is due to us within ten days of whelp. If you choose to pay after this date, and additional $50 will be added to the balance due ($800).

Other Potential Fees

Semen Deposit / Reservation...........................................................................$ 300
You may reserve one of the few remaining breedings of Rebel if your bitch is approved for breeding. This deposit is applied toward the stud fee; thus a balance of $450 is due prior to release of semen if a deposit has previously been placed. This deposit is refunded immediately upon request if you later request semen not  be shipped.

Shipping & Handling (approx., paid directly to Synbiotics or ICSB).....$ 275-350
Pays for handling fee, rental of shipping apparatus, plus FedEx overnight shipping). You must provide a credit card number to the semen bank prior to shipment.

Veterinary Fees (approximate, paid directly to your Veterinarian)........$300-400        Fees for progesterone and LH timing (to assess precise time of insemination), and surgical            implantation of frozen semen. Check with your vet for actual costs.

Prices subject to change; re-verify current prices
when your bitch comes into season.
